The fact that the Swedish Church is participating in Pride is common. But it’s unusual for the church to be the organisers of Pride.

In a bishop’s letter from 1951, the Swedish Church had already distanced itself from criminalising homosexual acts, says Priest Maria Halldén.

– There are different ways to interpret the Bible, but it doesn't really say much about homosexuality, she says.

Most of the responses have been positive. But there have also been negative reactions.

The Sacristan Torgny Storm says that some have been worried about "extremes", which are associated with Pride in Stockholm.

– For some people this means a lot. I look forward to people coming together, that it will be festive and fun, says Maria Halldén.
