Several millions for multilingual pupils - the goal is better results in school

New arrivals and multilingual pupils should receive more support in school. The goal is for them to achieve better results. And in Gamlegården, children who don’t attend preschool will be sought out. Kristianstad Municipality has received 9 million crowns from Skolverket (the Swedish National Agency for Education) for the initiative.

New arrivals and pupils with a mother tongue other than Swedish have a hard time achieving goals at school. The municipality now wants to give extra support to pupils so that they can get better results in school. The focus is on pupils in primary school, but also children in preschool.

– We have managed to get Skolverket to give us all of the money for this important initiative. The budget is 9 million crowns, says Daniél Tejera (L), Chairman of the Children and Education Committee.

– We start this spring and will continue for two and a half years.

The investment is part of Skolverket’s “Targeted measures for new arrivals”. The goal is to improve school results by providing the right support in teaching. It is primarily Fröknegårdskolan, Norretullskolan and Lingenässkolan that will be involved.

The goal is also to get more children to go to preschool so that they learn Swedish as early as possible and to have a good relationship with the parents.

But in Gamlegården, there are many children who don’t attend preschool. There, a team of staff will seek them out.
