School-leavers 2020: All ready for the traditional ”utspring” ceremony

On 12th June pupils leaving upper secondary school in Kristianstad can celebrate with the usual ”utspring”, when they all rush out of the school building for the last time, wearing their white caps. Two close relatives will be allowed to greet them as they come out. That is what barn- och utbildningsnämnden (the education committee) has ruled.

– It’s good to be able to fix things so that the young people can run out and say goodbye to their school, says Daniél Tejera (L), chairman of the education committee.

On Friday 12th June all final-year students at the municipality’s upper secondary schools are welcome to their schools, where they can spend time with their classmates, receive their certificates and run out class by class according to a special plan.

Two members from each pupil’s immediate family are welcome to come to the school. After that celebrations can continue privately.

Daniel Tejera hopes that the independent schools will organise something similar for their pupils.

– I want to thank this year’s students, and all the other pupils in the upper secondary schools, for showing such great responsibility during the spring. We have had distance education since 18th March, it’s a long time and it has worked well, says Daniél Tejera.

At some of the schools it will take several hours for all the classes to come running out. One class at a time, is the rule.

Pupils and their families will be given more details about the last day of term, 12th June, at the end of next week. About a thousand pupils will be involved.

– This year’s students are a group worth celebrating, they’ve really had to adapt and follow new rules to limit the spread of infection, says Mattias Olsson, chief education officer in Kristianstad municipality.
