Pupils test new kind of leadership training – more schools can adopt the idea

PE teacher Daniel Nilsson has initiated a system of co-operation with Skåneidrotten. Two 9th-year classes took part during the spring. They had theoretical lessons on how a club is built up, but also learned what makes a good leader. The purpose of the leadership training was to encourage young people to become leaders in various sports clubs.To get them to think like leaders in school and to be active in sports clubs in their leisure time.

Many sports clubs are in great need of more leaders.

Towards the end of their period of training the pupils did a test to check what they had learnt. The training is intended to be included in the subject ”Sports and Health”, and as such will be given grades. But Daniel Nilsson says this term’s leadership course was just a trial. In future the pupils will be given grades. And the course will also include practical aspects.

How will the pupils find this leadership training useful in the future?

– They can include it in their CV when they apply for a summer job or an ordinary job later on. And leadership training always comes in useful, says Daniel Nilsson.

– You don’t have to be interested in any particular sport. Leadership training will give young people the chance to be leaders in any kind of sports club at all.

Skåneidrotten plans to spread the leadership training idea to more schools in Sweden.
