There are over 2 000 cranes at Pulken in Yngsjö. There are probably more on their way. "On Sunday night I counted 2 100," says Evert Valfridsson, bird-watcher.

They usually come from mid-March to mid-April, he says.

Cranes fly from Spain, through Germany and further up to northern parts of Europe. There are good places to breed there.

How many cranes usually come to Pulken?

There have been over 8 000 cranes here every year since 2015. The record was on March 26, 2017. Then there were 8 900 cranes.

Some cranes stop at Pulken for just a few days. Others stay for two weeks. Most of the cranes fly north, to the inlands of Norrland.

In the northern parts of Sweden there are many places where people do not live; there the birds may be left alone. The environment there is also wetter. They put the nests in ponds.
