Object exploded in a car

First, an alarm was raised about an explosion outdoors at 23.19 in Näsby. A minute later someone raised an alarm about a car fire in the same area.

– Someone had smashed a window of a car and then thrown in an object which exploded, said Mattias Östling, Internal Officer at the emergency services in Kristianstad, at midnight.

There was a smouldering fire in the car. Nobody was injured in the explosion according to the emergency services.

Police later stated that it was probably some kind of explosive device that was placed in or near the car. At this point in time, the incident has been classified as vandalism. Forensic technicians and personnel from the National Bomb Squad were working at the scene during the night.
