New school at Lingenäs looks like a wooden building

Patterned facades in concrete that look like Falu red wooden panels, a rural idyll. But also a bullet-proof reception area. At Lingenäs school it is close to nature, but security demands are high.

Torbjörn Gustafson at C4 Teknik calls Lingenäs school his ”dream house”. He heads the project to construct the building, which has an area of 13 5000 square metres.

In the specification from the building committee it was laid down that the buildings should be close to nature. So the outer walls facing on to the street are of brick in different colours.

– If we had used proper wooden panels it would have taken another two years to build the school. And it would have cost more.

To the right inside the main entrance there is a bullet-proof reception area. This is something recommended by the Authority for Civil Protection and Preparedness, MSB, and the National Agency for Education following the attack on a school in Trollhättan in 2015.

– It’s an impressive entrance, says Torbjörn Gustafson.

From the entrance hall, a big staircase leads up to the first floor. The ceiling is high. There a stage there as well, and a library.

The gym has ”Vattenriket” (the World of Water) as its theme, with a blue sports floor and walls in blue and grey, and trellises to resemble reeds.

There are two dining-halls.

– We can hire out part of one of them.

Just like at C4 Shopping there is a system of canals that can take care of the water on site.

– Water isn’t supposed to stagnate in the channels, the system should be able to take care of it, says Torbjörn Gustafson.
