Mounted police caused a stir in Broby

There were a lot of raised eyebows when mounted police appeared on the streets of Broby. The reason for their visit was to give an increased sense of security, all part of Operation Rimfrost.

Shortly before ten one day during the week a police camper van drove into the car park at the petrol station in the middle of Broby, with five police officers all ready to meet the residents in the village. A few people stopped at once to chat with them.

Four mounted police from Malmö also turned up. They went off to patrol both the centre of the village and the residential areas.

A lot of people took the chance to take photos and exchange a few words. Most people kept their distance, but the horses got a few claps too.

– Most people we meet welcome our being here, but there are one or two who find it more troublesome, says Göran Svensson, one of the policemen in the camper van.

There is a great deal of vandalism in Östra Göinge. Last year 199 cases of vandalism were reported to the police. Over the past 24 years only 2017 had more reported cases of vandalism.

Camera surveillance, hidden radar and drones

As early as last summer politicians wanted to have camera surveillance in Östra Göinge municipality. Now the first camera is in place, at Prästavångsskola, where there has been a lot of vandalism. Politicians would also like to have cameras at the bus station and in the centre of Broby.

Radar surveillance has been installed in a number of municipal buildings, names unspecified. The radar is linked up to security firms. The radar can trace if there are people in the school playground at night, for example. In which case security guards are sent out to the address.

In connection with their search for the sale and use of drugs the police have permission to use drones until June, to begin with.
