Leading politicians met Imam in Näsby – to put a stop to the violence

Leading politicians have met Imam Shaaban Abouzur to discuss the lack of security in Gamlegården. Several parties have promised a large investment in the area. Among other things, ABK will provide funding to associations that carry out security patrols. "We see no parallel society there, but rather a parallel legal system," says Peter Johansson (M), Chairman of the Municipal Council.

Johansson and the opposition leader Anders Tell (S) met the Imam after the Friday prayer at the mosque in Näsby. It also became a question time for members of the congregation.

– The congregation is very concerned about the development of violence, especially in the past year. We share the same awareness of the situation, says Peter Johansson.

Just before Christmas, all of the parties in the Municipal Council (except the Left party) shook hands for a safer Kristianstad.

Can you not turn things around without Shaaban?

– He has an incredibly important role. There are a large number of people in Gamlegården who are Muslims. They like it there, but they want peace and quiet.

– And in order to change something, the drive must come from within. If the residents do not want it, then it doesn’t matter what the municipality does. There, Shaaban plays a central role.

Has is gone so far that we’re taking about a parallel society?

– No, I wouldn't say that. We see no parallel society there, but rather a parallel legal system. It's no secret, but something the police have pointed out over and over again.

– But now we're switching it up, it's time for a workshop, says Johansson.

The Imam and his co-workers will now call on all active associations in the area, together they will be able to contribute with efforts. The municipality and the municipal housing company ABK will be participating with security-enhancing resources.

The municipality has also made contact with the health centre in Näsby. There, staff have been witness to "a great deal of unpleasantness".

The police, in turn, will contribute with their presence as a preventative measure.

Critics are wondering why all of this wasn’t done before?

– Many parts of this have been done before, but now we are accelerating and gearing up.

What will be the difference this time?

– This time we'll keep at it. It's going to be a long-term ... I wouldn't call it a project, but a long-term lifestyle.

Or as Johansson puts it on his Facebook page: "Nu jävlar!! (That’s it!!)”.
