Kompis Sverige as a recipe for integration

The project Kompis Sverige (Friend Sweden) in Kristianstad has linked more than 100 new arrivals with people who have lived in Sweden for a long time. Now Kompis Sverige is looking for more new arrivals who want to be part of the community.

Integration is not a straightforward issue. It is difficult for new arrivals to find friends among people who have lived in Sweden for a long time (established Swedes).

Kompis Sverige hopes that all of the 200 people who have met in the project will have a long-standing friendship. The goal is that they will get to know each other.

– Kompis Sverige helps those who have lived in Sweden for a long time to socialise with a person with a different background and / or culture, says Project Manager Linnea Håkansson.

How does Kompis Sverige work?

- We work together with established and new Swedes to build a strong friendship, which helps to understand Swedish society. We help out with that, says Project Manager Amanda Holm Strandqvist.

- Friendship provides a mutual exchange that widens ones perspective, reduces language barriers and breaks down prejudices, says Linnea Håkansson.

- There are more established women than men who are involved. Through interviews we match established Swedes with new friends, based on interests and wishes, says Amanda Holm Strandqvist.
