Evacuees from the fire allowed to return home
Mikael Damberg (S), the Minister for Home Affairs, visited Hästveda on Thursday. He got to meet the evacuees. He also visited the place where the fire was the worst on Tuesday.
– Getting the helicopters involved early on is an important thing that we learned from last year's fires, says Mikael Damberg.
It was the state that had signed the agreement on the helicopters.
– There are 30 helicopters ready. Five of them have helped here in Hästveda.
He commends the efforts:
– An enormously impressive rescue effort. There are many who have helped, emergency services, volunteers, farmers. If we didn’t have the helicopters, it would have been much worse.
At most 80 firefighters were involved in the effort.
Damberg said most fires start because of people.
– There has to be an end to secret barbequing and lighting other types of fires when it is prohibited.
Now Länsförsäkringar Göinge-Kristianstad will help with aerial surveillance in order to prevent new fires. The insurance company has already helped with aerial surveillance last summer when it was very dry.
