Easter, Valborg's Eve and 1 st May - three important spring holidays
For Christians, Easter is an important holiday. On Valborg's Eve we sing that winter is over and spring is here at least. 1st May we celebrate International Labour Day.

Easter is the biggest holiday for Chritians. It is celebrated in remembrance of Jesus' crucifixion, death and resurrection, so that the sins of those who believe in him are forgiven, and they have eternal life.
The phases of the moon determine when Easter is celebrated. This year Easter is late, from 19th till 22nd April.
Valborg's Eve (30th April) is celebrated with song, music and speeches. Even although it is bitterly cold, we welcome the coming of spring. In many places bonfires are lit. In Östanå there is a carnival.
Since 1890, 1st May is the labour movement's own day, with demonstrations, red flags and speeches. In Sweden, 1st May is a public holiday, a ”red day” in the calendar.
