Arson in Kristianstad – hero security guard

Just before 2 am on Monday morning, someone smashed the window to a convenience store in central Kristianstad. The store was on fire moments later.

– The perpetrator or perpetrators may have had some kind of flammable liquid with them. Liquid that was poured through the broken window and then a fire was lit, says Marielle Kamp, Internal Officer at Kristianstad police.

A security guard was the first to arrive at the scene. The security guard was able to extinguish the fire before the emergency services arrived. The police have conducted an investigation of the crime scene.

The smoke spread to premises adjacent to the store.

The emergency services praised the security guard's efforts.

– He did great, he had confined the fire and made a great effort, says Micael Svensson, Officer at the emergency services in Kristianstad.

A hero?

– Absolutely.

The store was closed. No one was hurt.

The police have cordoned off the area. On Monday, the police will carry out a forensic investigation. As of yet, there is no suspect for the crime which has been classified as arson.
