All Valborg celebrations cancelled
There is less of a risk for fires in forests and on land. But the big events to celebrate Valborg (Walpurgis Night) in northeast Skåne have been cancelled – because of covid-19.

On Valborg evening, at the end of April, we usually sing the song that winter has gone, celebrate the arrival of spring and light fires. Not this year, however, because of the risk of spreading the new coronavirus.
Gatherings are limited to a maximum of 50 people.
But you are allowed to light fires, if you’re careful.
Jimmy Ask, Internal Officer at Räddningstjänsten Skåne (Emergency Services Skåne) urges caution to those lighting fires.
– Anyone who lights a fire is always responsible for putting it out, he says.
In 2019, there were about 80 applications to light a fire on the evening of Valborg. This year there were four, but they’ve also been cancelled.
