The so-called Palme Group has investigated the murder all these years. The Palme Group has concluded that Stig Engström probably acted on his own:

Olof Palme, born January 30th, 1927 in Stockholm, died February 28th, 1986 in Stockholm, was Prime Minister of Sweden from 1969 to 1976 and from 1982 until his death in 1986. He led Sweden's Social Democratic Workers Party from 1969 to his death.

– We have not been able to find anything to support a conspiracy, but it cannot be ruled out, says Krister Petersson, who is now closing the preliminary investigation.

No murder weapon was secured in the investigation.

Stig Engström worked in an office near the murder scene on Sveavägen in Stockholm. He died in 2000.
