A craft course full of possibilities
The course starts with simple garments. Step by step, the women will learn how to sew.
Lina Nouh and Jamila Wazan are the ones behind the idea.
– The aim of the course is to give immigrant women tools in order to be self-sufficient, says Lina Nouh.
– We will teach the women to sew different kinds of skirts, long pants, blouses and to work with wool. They will be able to learn about practical sewing accessories, about fabrics, and where to buy these, says Jamila Wazan.
There are sewing machines here that you can use yourself as well.
– We hope that everyone, after completing the course, will have so much knowledge that they feel safe to move on with their own goals, says Lina Nouh.
Can anyone who wants to, join the course?
– All women can participate and no prior knowledge is required. Everyone in the group, with our teacher, helps out with tips, exchange ideas and experiences with each other. And so we have fun together, says Lina Nouh.
Why do men not attend the sewing course?
– What we are sewing right here feels quite feminine, thinks Jamila Wazan.
It is the Hyresgästföreningen (the tenant association) in collaboration with ABK and House of Beatrice who organises the course in sewing craft at 23 Albogatan, every Thursday from 13.00 to 14.30.
