25-year-old detained for kidnapping - denies everything

The 25-year-old man was arrested after the drama on JH Dahlsgatan on Monday. He was detained on Thursday. The man is suspected of kidnapping and two cases of aggravated assault. He denies all charges.

Kristianstad

The 25-year-old was detained in Kristianstad District Court. The District Court also decided that the man should undergo a psychiatric assessment to evaluate his mental state. The hearing was held behind closed doors. It has been classed as confidential; the preliminary investigation is still ongoing.

The man lives in Kristianstad. The crimes he is suspected of took place on JH Dahlsgatan and nearby streets.

The 25-year-old was arrested at 11.42 am, that is, twenty minutes after SOS received an alarm about the incident. He has previously been convicted of violent resistance and minor drug offences.

Kidnapping is a crime which entails someone taking another person away or holding them captive with the intent to harm or blackmail them, or something similar. The penalty for kidnapping is imprisonment for a minimum of four years and a maximum of eighteen years, or life in prison.

In the case there are two victims (the injured party). One of these climbed on top of a roof, injured and bloody. He entered an apartment through an open window. A 19-year-old woman, who was in the apartment, told Kristianstadsbladet that the man was terrified; he said he had been tortured for several hours.

The police are looking for more witnesses.

– We would like to get in touch with people who may have seen or heard something in connection with the incident between 5 am and 11.40 am on Monday morning, said Chamber Prosecutor Marie-Louise Holmberg after the arrest.
