At 11 am a person came into the Municipal Hall in Broby and poured petrol over himself. Police, emergency services and ambulance were quick to respond. At 12 pm, it was announced that the person in question was subdued and taken out of the building.
The alarm was raised to SOS (the public emergency services) at 11.07. The Municipal Hall had to evacuate its staff.
The Municipal Hall was cordoned off by about 11.40 am. The situation had been resolved just before 12 pm.
– The person has been arrested. Now the police have to investigate more closely why the person acted as they did, says Dan Svensson, External Officer at the emergency services.
According to Östra Göinge municipality's information, care of the person is said to have taken place calmly.
Östra Göinge municipality has written in a press release that a strong odour and flammable liquid are still present in the Municipal Hall. Therefore, the Municipality will remain closed for the rest of the day.
– This is a threat to the Municipality's operations. It is primarily a police matter but also a personnel case. What we need to focus on now is taking care of those who came across this person, says Municipal Councillor Patric Åberg (M) to Kristianstadsbladet.
More people stopped outside the Municipal Hall.
– If it goes so far that a man threatens to set himself on fire, then something really terrible must have happened in his life, says a woman passing by.
