The Safety Survey 2018 (Trygghetsmätningen) shows that those who live in the centre of Kristianstad are afraid of being assaulted. They are also afraid of using the bus or the trains and do not want to get involved in any activities.

The police therefore want to increase security. There is already a police presence in the city. It's about civilian police working on drug prevention. It’s surveillance work that is not visible to ordinary people, but which disturbs the drug trade. As a result, reports of drug offenses have increased.

Now there will be a greater presence of police officers in uniform in the city.

– I think it will be beneficial with police presence in the centre. They will work on maintaining public order in the city. We think this is important. The centre should not be an environment where there is free reign for gangs of youth to move around. And addicts shouldn’t be able to bother other people, says Anders Olofsson.

Martin Thornell is a municipal police officer in Kristianstad. After New Year, he will have a colleague.

– We have seen the benefit of a committed municipal police officer. Kristianstad is such a big city that two municipal police officers are needed, says Anders Olofsson.
