Many Practical questions when somebody dies
The Churchof Sweden in Kristianstad is responsible for funerals in the whole administrative area (the parishes of Heliga Trefaldighet and Norra Åsum).
Where should you turn to to arrange a funeral?
– First of all you must get in touch with someone in the religious body where the deceased person was a member. They help you to arrange the funeral or farewell ceremony, says Aleksandar Jovanovic, who is assistant information officer in the Church of Sweden in Kristianstad.
How often do people ask about funerals?
– It varies a lot, sometimes every day, he says.
What kind of people ask? Are they Christian, Moslem or from other religions?
– People from all congregations and religions phone us for advice. But in recent years it is mostly new swedes who ask.
What is the most usual question?
– There are all sorts of questions, but most often they ask, ”What do I do now?” That´s why it's a good thing that the booklet ”All about funerals” is now available in Swedish, English, Arabic, Finish, Polish and BKS (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian). If the deceased person was not a member of the Church of Sweden, we co-operate with other churches, says Aleksandar Jovanovic.
The Church of Sweden in Kristianstad has also started to give information about funerals.
