Kulturgalan: "I am proud to be from Kristianstad"

This year's Kulturgala had a varied choice with local relevance. And happy prize-winners. "I can't really believe that I got this prize," said Henok Achido. He received the Kristianstadsbladet's Culture and Entertainment Prize of 25,000 crowns.

Several prizes and grants were awarded at the Kulturgala on Friday the 18th of October. Henok Achido is the hip hop artist that lived in Österäng, but has lived in Stockholm for 20 years.

”She encouraged me and saw that I had a way with language that people wanted to listen to. I'm glad I followed my dreams”

In 2009 he was called the future of Swedish hip hop. In 2019 Henok Achido is back with the song ”Bror utan sol (bland rök och stearin)”. The album has received glowing reviews.

Henok Achido was happy but nervous when he received the prize.

– I haven't given a speech since the presentations in high school he said and sent a thank you to his Swedish teacher.

– She encouraged me and saw that I had a way with language that people wanted to listen to. I'm glad I followed my dreams, says Henok.

Now new music adventures await and he’s writing completely new music. When the record is complete, he hopes to be able to come home and play it for the home crowd.

– Absolutely, I'm proud that I'm from Kristianstad. This is home for me, even though I'm out and about, he says.

– My roots are in Eritrea, and in Kristianstad. The city and I carry each other's names.

Kristianstad Municipality's Culture Prizes have been awarded for 55 years.

Dramatist Lucas Svensson received the prize of 50,000 crowns.

– A technician at the theatre said to me "have you become a prophet in your hometown now you bugger" - and yes, maybe so, he said.
