The Nya journalistpriset is being awarded for the second year in a row. It is a prize for the best journalism in a language other than Swedish in Sweden. On Friday it became clear that Kb Mosaik, which is published by Kristianstadsbladet, was one of the nominees.

– It's amazing and a great honour, says Inga-Lill Bengtsson, Editor of Kb Mosaik.

Today, the editorial team consists of journalists Inga-Lill Bengtsson, Mohamad Kanina and Sofyan Aswad. The newspaper is edited by Maria Nilson.

– Kb Mosaik plays a very important role as a bridge between different cultures and mentalities. It helps people access news and understand the rules and culture here, says Mohamad Kanina who worked as a journalist in Syria.

– Many people that we meet say that Kb Mosaik is important, especially for new arrivals. Many people read the same article in both Arabic and Swedish to learn the language. Or they just read it in Swedish since it’s written in easy Swedish, he says.

Sofyan Aswad has worked as a TV reporter in Syria. He says:

– It’s great that we have been nominated. Whether we win or not, the nomination means that our voice is being heard, that we are doing something good and important for society.

The first issue of Kb Mosaik was released in April 2016. Since then much has happened, not least with the work on the internet.

What are your hopes for Kb Mosaik in the future?

– That we should continue. There is an increased polarisation and segregation in society. It feels like it's a tough climate, on social media among others, says Inga-Lill Bengtsson.

– I think we play an important role; we don't want to play on people's fears. There’s not that much that differs. We are pretty much the same. Everyone wants to live well, have a job and have a good school for their children.

Kb Mosaik has been nominated in the category "best medium, platform or forum that publishes and constructively discusses integration in Swedish society in a language other than Swedish." The other nominees in the same category are Sameradion and "The Local".
