– The municipality will have a roll in the dialogue to increase understanding between different groups. So that we get a whole Kristianstad. I also believe that the bodies have an important role, says opposition leader Anders Tell (S). He will be the Vice Chairman of the Council.

Radovan Javurek (L), Chairman of the Work and Welfare board will be the Chairman.

It was Tell and Javurek who put forward the proposal for an interreligious council. Even the five religious bodies have said that there is a need for collaboration in a council.

The five religious bodies are the Church of Sweden, the Östermalm Church Assembly, the Holy Demetrios Orthodox Assembly, Kristianstad’s Islamic Assembly and the Catholic Church.

Other religious bodies are also welcome.

The Municipal Executive Committee has decided to set up the Council for cooperation between the municipality and the religious bodies. The Council will "promote democracy and participation, with respect for gender equality and the equal value of all people".

The goal is to jointly build a socially sustainable Kristianstad.
